Back to Reality (VACATION PHOTO DUMP!)

So as I mentioned in my last post, I was away in the Outer Banks for all of last week. Let me tell you – the vacation was much needed. I didn’t realize how busy I had been this summer and it was heavenly just to sit back and relax all week. Corolla, NC is absolutely gorgeous and it didn’t hurt that I was with Chris and his family for the week ūüôā

If you’ve never been to OBX, it basically your typical beach vacation town. It mostly all huge beach houses, with a few resorts scattered through. There’s the beach on one side of the island and the sound on the other. Absolutely stunning. Besides the water, there’s also a ton of other things to do on the island as well. Everything from amazing restaurants to mini-golf to movie theaters are throughout the island. We were situated in Corolla, which is where Chris’s family home is. Corolla is nicely stuck in the middle of everything, so we really didn’t have to drive more than 5 minutes to anything.¬†

Some of the highlights of the week were:

  • Eating dinner at the Sunset Grille for our 10 month anniversary. The restaurant is right on the sound and Chris planned it so we went right as sunset was happening and we had a window seat so we got to see most of the sunset, which was beautiful (until a giant cloud got in the way).
  • Taking a nature walk through one of the maritime forests at the top of the island, where there was some beautiful views looking out at the sound when you got to the end of the path.
  • Kayaking! I absolutely love to kayak and we went on a kayaking tour held by the Outer Banks Nature Conservatory. It was a nice hour and a half long tour of some of the sound where we got to hear about the wildlife that call the sound their home.¬†
  • We also hauled our butts out of bed one morning at 6 and went to the beach to watch the sunrise. It was gorgeous when the sun crested right over the water. Stunning doesn’t even begin to describe it.¬†
  • Sadly, we went jet-skiing as well. Totally not my thing. I was convinced I was going to be thrown off the entire time. But nevertheless, Chris loved it so I suffered through.¬†

Overall, the vacation was amazing. Great location, great people, and great fun. The only bad part was that I gained back almost all the weight I lost this summer! It was totally worth it though.

Below are a ton of the pictures that I took over the course of the week. You can find some of the things mentioned above in them!

Vacation Update!

Morning everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts lately. If I didn’t mention it earlier, I’m away at the Outer Banks, NC this whole week so instead of blogging, I’m lounging on the beach or by the pool. I promise I’ll be back to it when I get back to the good ‘ole Jersey on Tuesday. Don’t worry – there will be a huge picture dump when I get back!

This is my first time down in OBX. And let me tell you, it’s gorgeous. It’s the typical beach house vacation area, where all the houses are in pastels or bright colors and its just miles and miles of beaches. I’m in heaven. We’ve been pretty lucky with the weather too. Only a few clouds and some rain drops between getting here on Saturday and now. Otherwise, its been tanning-central here. Aka I’ve been going through a bottle of sunscreen a day. #palepeopleproblems

Today, we’re going to be going jet-skiing. I haven’t been since I was a little kid and the only thing I remember was the fear of falling off the back of it. If I fall off today, some hell is going to be raised. That’s if I survive.¬†

Hope ya’ll are enjoying the last few weeks of summer! I’ll keep you lovelies updated soon!

Long weekend fun!

Hope everyone had a fun 4th of July! I’m sorry I haven’t really posted a ton within the past few days, but I’m about to get back on track! With the long weekend, I’ve had some time off to be with my boyfriend and my family and its been paired with lazy days by the pool and evenings reading in my hammock. I completely forgot how much I enough just lounging around and relaxing. And given the fact that it’s been gorgeous here in Jersey for the past 3 days, I cannot have asked for more.¬†

My 4th went well. I spent the day at Chris’s (my boyfriend) house for his big family and friends barbecue. Besides eating way more than my stomach can handle (and completely loving every bite) we spent the day running around in bathing suits, in and out of the pool and just hanging out outside. It was amazing.¬†

ImageYesterday was spent sitting by the pool, trying to get rid of my ghostly white skin. Since I’ve been interning all summer, I haven’t had much time to spend outside and boy, has my skin suffered. Usually during the summer, I am brown before June hits. Now its the beginning of July and tan lines have yet to be formed. This weekend is devoted to some hard core sun time! (with sunscreen, of course) I also took a trip to the library yesterday to pick up some good summertime books to read when I’m near the pool or at the beach. I grabbed¬†Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella, which is the last in the¬†Confessions of a Shopaholic¬†series. Sadly, I had completely forgotten that I’ve already read it so about 3 pages in, I realized and had to switch. If you haven’t read the series yet, I highly recommend it. The books are great summer reads, easy to get through and kind of addicting. If you saw the movie and thought it was terrible, thats totally okay. The books are nothing like the movie. I also picked up¬†Summer Rental¬†by Mary Kay Andrews, which I am about halfway done with so far. Love it! I’ll write a full review of it when I finish it, which will probably be tomorrow. Lastly, I got¬†The Next Thing on My List, by Jill Smolinski. I’ll let you guys know how that one goes. Usually I can read close to 30 books a summer, as I’m definitely a book worm. But since I’ve gotten off to to a slow start, it won’t be nearly as many. I’m gonna try though! I enough easy reads for the beach and pool, as they don’t really require much concentration. For the train and commute, I prefer something more intellectually stimulating. Maybe I’ll post my summer reading wish list soon!¬†

As I mentioned, this weekend is a family weekend. Tonight we went to Bahama Breeze to celebrate for my brother, David’s, 18th birthday, which was this past Wednesday. Dinner was followed by some lovely Dairy Queen ice cream cake, both his and my favorite. Tomorrow night, my family and my aunts and cousins will all be journeying into Hoboken to Little Town, NJ, a new restaurant that opened up right on the water. Hopefully it’ll be good! Monday is a family beach day with the girls of the family, so we’re praying the nice weather stays around!¬†

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

My week in pictures!

For the first time in who knows how long, I plugged my iPhone into my computer. I totally forgot how as soon as you plug the iPhone into the computer, iPhoto pops up and asks you to upload your photos. Which is great and all…except when you have over 300 photos on your phone that have not been uploaded to your computer yet. So today, I let my phone do its job with the computer and now I have a fully updated photo library with all the countless, absolutely pointless photos I take every day. And what else is there to do on a Wednesday night then to share them all with you!

ImageThis photo I’m solely putting up so you can all see my beautiful feet! (Just kidding). As it’s gotten warmer out (sort of), my family decided to open our pool. Surprisingly, the water isn’t too cold and I spent a good portion of my day sitting outside reading a book and occasionally putting my feet in the other day. I’ve missed relaxing days like that. I definitely need to do it more often. You guys should all too!

ImageI’m not the only one who’s enjoying the pool! Sydney, our 1 year old english golden retriever absolutely loves it. Well, just the steps actually. She’s still refusing to go in all the way, but any time we let her outside, she immediately goes and puts her paws in. Which is usually followed by her dunking her head in and out a bunch of times, resulting in a very wet and smelly puppy, as you can see. While we got her at the beginning of last summer, she was too tiny to even go in the pool at all so this is her first time encountering the big blue thing in the middle of the backyard. Looks like she’s going to be wet all summer…

ImageProm season has come upon us again! For all those juniors and seniors in high school, the rite of passage has now passed and they have experienced what some consider to be the best part of high school. While my senior prom was 2 years ago, my younger brother David went to his senior prom last weekend. So, tux and all, we took the classic sibling pictures while we braced the heat (and I attempted to not cry because of all the cicadas that we outside at this time)

ImageI found this on someone that I know’s twitter. I thought it was pretty. Italy, maybe? Wherever that is, I want to be there. Now.

ImageIn my opinion, roses are the perfect classy flower. I especially love when they are a different color then the usual red. At my boyfriend’s hour this weekend, I was seen admiring the roses that they have in their backyard and he so graciously cut me off one to take home with me. My original one was white, but he happened to crush that one not long after he gave it to me…so he got me a pink one too. That one survived the journey home and is doing surprisingly well in its little glass of water in my room. I’m impressed.¬†

Hope you enjoyed my pictures and randomness! Please feel free to share the randomness of your lives with me in the comments!
