Craziness

This week has been absolutely the most hectic week of the year so far (at least it feels that way). Finals week is in full swing and I was an idiot and decided to not take off of my internship or work this week, so I’m handling a thousand things at once now. Like right now, I’m at my internships. Yet, I have a 10 page paper due Sunday night and a take home final due by Tuesday morning. But nope, I’m sitting in my cubicle writing this and being bored as I finished all my current work that I actually wanted to do and am procrastinating the work I don’t want to do.

How I manage to do everything I do still amazes me. 15 hours of class a week, 20+ hours of crew, 15 hours of interning, 7 hours of swim lessons and somehow (I really don’t know how) maintaining a super solid relationship with Chris. Yes, I lack a social life somewhat, but I’m content with it. People say I’m crazy…I definitely am.

One of the things that everyone always asks is how I manage to fit everything into my day. There’s a few ways I get all this shizz done.

  1. Plan. Plan everything. Live life down to the minute. As sad as this is, it’s the only way to get everything done. My planner is always with me and it has everything written in it – from when I work, to what work I need to do, to everything else. If I lost my planner, I’d probably have a mental breakdown and never get back up
  2. Make use out of the time that you think isn’t long enough to get anything done. For instance, I finish work a half hour before Chris does somedays. Usually, I’m lazy and spend that time sitting in the hot tub and scrolling through instagram. Bad idea. Recently, I’ve been making myself throw some clothes over my swim suit and heading up to the gym to get on the treadmill. Even if its 25 minutes, its still something. I clocked a solid 2 miles of walking on an incline and running last night. Almost burned off the cake I made before work… womp…
  3. Lastly, know what you can  manage. Don’t take on too much. This semester was way too much for me. I’m cutting back next semester to get my grades back up after a slight drop this semester (kill me now). The sad part is that my cutting back involves cutting crew out. Based on the time requirements of my internship, taking 6 classes instead of 5, still wanting to teach swim lessons alittle, and training for my half in the spring and then tri-training for the summer, something had to go. Crew was the biggest time suck and my love for it has fallen. I’ll still coach this summer for my high school team and I might pick it back up next fall. But for right now, I won’t be getting back into my cubby in the boat 😦

Guess I should go back to doing work now? Ugh. Sunday can’t come fast enough.

Holiday Motivational Mail 2014!

Hey everyone! Hopefully you survived hump day and are now clear into your second half of the week. Right now, it’s absolutely dreary here in Baltimore. The fog is absurd BUT it is also 60 degrees — THANK GOD. I’ve had enough of the cold weather sans snow. Mother nature, if you’re going to make it freezing out, at least let there be snow. But since it’s warm today and classes are winding down, I might actually be able to go out and get a run in today! I’m super duper excited here.

So the main point of this post: I’ve started a holiday motivational mail for this holiday season! Below are some of the ah-maz-inggg deets.

What’s motivational mail? Motivational mail is something that’s being going around Instagram and twitter and other social media platforms for alittle while now. Basically, you sign up and you’ll be paired with a similar person, based on age, interests, etc. Once you get your partner, you comply a small gift package of holiday working out and motivating things! Little food bites, magazines, etc. Just something to keep your buddy motivated and slim during the holidays! The package should be around $15, plus the cost of shipping. (If you use USPS flat rate boxes, you can usually fit everything into a $5 box!)

What are the dates? All pairings will be sent out on the 10th of this month. You’ll have until the 15th to send your gift out, so most people will get them by the holiday!

Thanksgiving break! (FINALLY)

I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving! Hopefully, everyone enjoyed a nice time with their families and friends and ate more food then your stomaches can handle! I know I did…

Right now, I’m currently back home in Jersey because it’s Thanksgiving Break. AKA the best 5 days of the year. When I head back to school on Sunday, it will be a week of classes, then a week of finals. Basically, life is going to suck once I hit Baltimore Sunday evening.

After a 5 hour drive home on Tuesday evening, I was greeted by a super-happy puppy and the love and warmth of my home. I could not be more in bliss. As much as I love Loyola and my friends (aka my family) there, there is something special about coming home for the holidays. I don’t want to leave.

One of the best things about being home is the fact that I actually have time to get a workout in every once in awhile, in my home gym! It’s heavenly. I spent a good chunk of time there on Wednesday. I went to the pilates mat class, which ended up being core-based yoga because their was a substitute instructor. Still, it was pretty great. Followed by some core and the Frisky Fall workout routine from Tone It Up, I was set to eat my heart out on Thanksgiving.

This year, Turkey Day was a little different for my family. Usually, our holidays are bustling with babies and all members of our family are there. This year, because of the recent influx of babies being born, it was just my intermediate family and my aunt and uncle. All of the other members stayed at their respective homes with their newborns. It was a different feeling all night. No screaming children, no toys to trip over. While it was definitely a relaxing evening, I didn’t liked it. Our family is defined by the crazy Italian-ness. Thankfully, we’ll all be together again for the Christmas holidays.

Now that the holiday is over, it’s back to the reality. The remainder of my weekend will be spent doing homework while drinking copious amounts of homework, spending time with my family and puppy, and missing Chris terribly (how sad is it that we can’t go 5 days without seeing each other?? Ohh the crazy thing called love). As I’m writing this, I am sitting in Barnes and Noble trying to do multiple assignments at once. Kill me now.

I will never understand why teachers leave all the big assignments for the last week of class. Plan these things out please! I have over 40 pages to write and two powerpoint presentations to make, all due before December 9th. It’s going to be a fun week…

Stay warm in this cold weather!

The Dreaded Fall Illness

So  everyone knows that when the weather starts to get really freakin’ cold and windy and all hell breaks loose on our immune systems, it’s not gonna be fun. Well, little ole’ me, who gets 9 hours of sleep a night, always drinks OJ and a ton of other Vitamin C full things, rarely gets this dreaded fall cold/chills/flu sort of mess that everyone else gets….Until now.

Chris has been pretty sick the past few days, with sinusitis (basically a cold) and a bunch of other things. Essentially, he had the worst cold on the planet accompanied with a fever and just feeling crappy. I thought I would be fine. I was wrong.

Last night, I started feeling alittle odd and decided to skimp out on my evening workout and stay up late studying get some sleep. I chugged some Emergen-c and some water and hit the hay. When I woke up at 5:30 this morning for practice, my throat was on fire and I felt like hell. Literal hell. My body was burning up like the Jonas Brothers. Practice obviously didn’t happen and I went back to bed for another few hours before heading to the magazine for the day.

The best part? I have two exams coming up this evening. Great. I’m going to be that sniffly, coughing girl in class that you want to murder. Yup, that’s me. No matter how much green tea with honey and water I drink, I’ve stayed the same amount of grossness all day. My miracles are no longer working.

Anyone have any good remedies for punching the world’s worst cold right in the nose?

Intern Lessons + Pilates!

As this dreary Monday comes to a close, I’ve learned a few things while sitting in my cubicle at my internship today. I thought I’d share these wonderful intern-life lessons with you all! (…lol)

  1. Clothing: Make sure you check the weather before you leave the house. Wearing a brand new pair of ALDO flats on a day that it’s supposed to pour and storm so badly that there is a tornado warning, is really not a great idea. It results in some very wet shoes
  2. Lunch: Bring your own. If you work in an office that is all guys, as I do, lunch is always an issue. Unhealthy food is a frequent occurrence and you best be prepared for it. Usually, on Mondays, the company orders in either pizza or sandwiches, which I am completely fine with. However, today was Chipotle Day. Not a great decision when I feel bloated and disgusting for the remainder of the day. Some cardio and pilates were definitely needed!
  3. Attitude: Roll with the punches. Another lesson learned from working in an office with all guys: if they ask about your relationship with your boyfriend, be prepared to be embarrassed. I had an awkward moment today where they were asking about our relationship and it got mad awkward…real fast. Thankfully, it was all laughed off in the end. I only blushed alittle.
  4. Boredom: Some days are boring. It’s just the normal business cycle. Like today. Where I was at the office from 8 am to 5 pm and I didn’t do a SINGLE thing. I caught up on the news though. But in the intern life, be prepared for slow days at the office. You just have to make the best out of it. It’s not because they don’t like the work you do. It’s just one of those days.

Onto my pilates experience… I’ve decided that, since I have stopped lifting weights as much as I used too and have focused more on cardio, I need to incorporate some sort of strength training/toning routine into my mix. I tried the Pilates Mat class at RWJ Rahway Fitness and Wellness Center in Scotch Plains, NJ. It’s the health club that I teach my swim lessons and masters swimming classes at. I truly love the gym and all of the group fitness classes there, but this was the first time that I tried the pilates class. I thought it was going to be somewhat easy. Man, was I wrong. Before the warm-up even ended, my inner thighs were fatigued and shaking and I thought I was going to die. As I started paying more attention to my breathing and really listening to the instructor, it got easier. I have to do the easy version of a lot of the exercises, but for some that were more ab-focused, I was able to go up a level or so. My instructor, Cathy, was great with giving us different modifications to do, depending on our comfort and experience level. At the end, I did feel like I got a good workout in. Plus, it was a good way to wind down my Monday. I’ll definitely be back!

As the summer progresses on, I really want to get into a solid intern-gym-social life routine that I can stick to. Lately, I’ve been so off-track and have not gotten nearly enough done in any category of my life! Time to change that!
